Divorce Provider Referrals
Many parents contact me with concerns about children’s coping with divorce-related emotions and events before, during and after divorce. Issues often involve parenting styles, custody matters, visitation schedules, etc.
The choice of mental health provider in the context of divorce is critical. The therapy experience can influence the child’s perception of therapy and therapists for years to come.
At this point in my 25 year career, I refer divorced/divorcing families to forensically trained mental health providers - specialists in the delicate intersection of mental health and legal matters, like divorce. Child therapists well-grounded in divorce-related legal matters can conduct beneficial child therapy, help divided couples co-parent productively, and avoid painful pitfalls that result in unhelpful (or anti-helpful) child therapy.
My preferred and comprehensive referral source is the Family Court Behavioral Health Provider Roster of the Maricopa County Superior Court. This website provides listing of behavioral health professionals who specialize in and welcome divorce-related therapy and other matters. Search by City, search by specialty.
